Good things come in small packages…

Small but perfectly formed…

It’s the small things that count…

There are plenty of old sayings which celebrate the merits of smallness, yet we seem to have forgotten these in favour of ‘bigger is better’ when it comes to houses. The average new-build house in New Zealand is now over 180 square metres, compared with 110 square metres in the early 1970s, despite families and households decreasing in size. So a mere 75 square metres of house must be pretty inadequate for modern living, right? Well, no…

Our two bedrooms are just right for two adults and a teenager who’s hardly home. We manage to get along just fine with only one bathroom between us, and our kitchen, living and outdoor entertaining area comfortably accommodated nine people for Christmas lunch. This blog is all about living well in a small space, and I think we’re achieving that! I hope I can share some things I’ve learnt along the way, ideas and inspiration for a small (or not so small) home.
